How to Fix Noisy Appliances

Do you have some noisy appliances driving you crazy? While there’s no cure-all for the miscellaneous thumps and creaks that can happen, we have a couple of culprits that regularly turn up. As always, there are many different brands and types of appliances. If you have a specific problem that is hard to pin point, call the experts at TeeVax for some professional help!

Oven

Most newer ovens have a fan that circulates warm air inside of your oven. Over time, the motor bearings inside the convection fan can become worn and make a racket. It can start to make excessive noises and cause your oven to have “hot spots” resulting in uneven cooking. If you’re hearing a loud whirring or other unusual noise from your oven, it’s time to call a professional!

Freezer / Refrigerator

Is there a scraping or ticking noise coming from inside your freezer? Ice build up inside your frost-free freezer can lead to a scraping sound coming from the evaporator fan. It’s time to clean out the freezer! Take everything out of the freezer (it’s the perfect time to dig into those popsicles) and leave the door open and appliance off for 24 hours. This will allow the ice to melt and hopefully stop the bothersome noise. Be certain to prepare for whatever ice may melt out of the unit. Placing towels inside and around the unit may be a good idea. Take the opportunity to wipe down the walls with a mixture of baking soda, dish soap, and water, then rinse off. Once the ice has melted and the shelves and walls have been wiped down, close the door and restart the freezer. Hopefully the noise has stopped.

Dryer

Is your dryer making a droning sound? Doing the laundry is loud enough without additional noise. If your dryer is droning on, it’s most likely lint buildup in the blower housing, drum rollers or the belt tensioner.

These are just some of the most popular appliance noise problems. If you are experiencing these, or a different noisy appliance, call TeeVax. Our professional appliance technicians can get to the root of the problem.
