FAQ – Air Conditioners
Air conditioner cooling, but room is too warm – ice forming on cooling coil behind decorative front.
ISSUE: Air directional louvers positioned improperly.
DO THIS: Position louvers to direction upward and away from cooling coils.
ISSUE: Dirty air filter – air restricted.
DO THIS: Clean filter.
ISSUE: Door, windows, registers, etc. open – cold air escapes; hot air enters.
DO THIS: Close doors, windows, registers, etc.
ISSUE: Electri-Saver in ON position.
DO THIS: Set Electri-Saver to OFF.
ISSUE: Front of unit is blocked by drapes, blinds, furniture, etc. – restricts air distribution.
DO THIS: Clear blockage in front of unit.
ISSUE: Insufficient cooling capacity.
DO THIS: Reconfirm the required cooling capacity with your dealer.
ISSUE: Outdoor temperature below 70 degrees F.
DO THIS: To defrost the coil, turn selector switch to FAN position. After coils have defrosted, set thermostat to a warmer position.
ISSUE: Selector switch set on Low-Cool.
DO THIS: Turn switch to High – Cool.
ISSUE: Thermostat set too cold for “nighttime” cooling.
DO THIS: To defrost the coil, turn selector switch to FAN position. After coils have defrosted, set thermostat to a warmer position.
ISSUE: Thermostat set too warm (lower number).
DO THIS: Turn thermostat clockwise to colder setting (higher number).
ISSUE: Unit recently turned on in hot room.
DO THIS: Allow additional time to remove “stored heat” from walls, ceiling, floor and furniture.
ISSUE: Vent control (some models) set at Open position.
DO THIS: Turn control to Closed position for maximum cooling.

Air conditioner heating but room too cool

ISSUE: Doors, windows, register, etc. open – hot air escapes; cold air enters.

ISSUE: Insufficient heating capacity for area to be heated.
DO THIS: Reconfirm the required heating capacity with your dealer.
ISSUE: Room temperature is warm enough.
DO THIS: Heating will not occur until temperature at the thermostat is lower.
ISSUE: Thermostat set too cool (higher number).
DO THIS: Turn thermostat counterclockwise to warmer setting (lower number).
ISSUE: Unit recently turned on in cool room.
DO THIS: Allow additional time to heat walls, ceiling, floor and furniture.
ISSUE: Vent control (some models) set at Open position.
DO THIS: Set control to Closed position for maximum heating.

Air Conditioner will not operate on Cool, Fan , or Heat settings.
ISSUE: House fuse blown or circuit breaker tripped.
DO THIS: Replace fuse with time delay type or reset circuit.
ISSUE: Thermostat set to low for cooling or too high for heating.
DO THIS: Adjust thermostat to higher number for cooling, lower number for heating.
ISSUE: Wall plug disconnected.
DO THIS: Push plug into wall outlet.

Air from unit does not feel cold on Cool setting.
ISSUE: Selector switch is in the FAN position.
DO THIS: Turn switch clockwise to Cool position.
ISSUE: Temperature sensing tube touching cold coil, located behind air filter (some models only).
DO THIS: Straighten tube so it does not touch coil and/or insert sensing tube into mounting bracket on coil.
ISSUE: Thermostat set too warm (lower number)
DO THIS: Turn thermostat clockwise to colder setting (higher number).
ISSUE: Thermostat temperature below 70 degrees F.
DO THIS: Cooling may not occur until temperature at thermostat rises above 70 degrees F.

Air from unit does not feel warm enough on heat setting.
ISSUE: Selector switch in Fan or Cool position.
DO THIS: Turn selector switch counterclockwise to Heat position.
ISSUE: Thermostat set too cool (higher number).
DO THIS: Turn thermostat counterclockwise to warmer setting (lower number).

Noise when air conditioner operates on cooling.
ISSUE: Air sound.
DO THIS: Air sound is normal. If too loud, turn selector switch to lower fan setting.
ISSUE: Sound of fan hitting water- moisture removal system.
DO THIS: This is normal when humidity is high. Close door, windows, registers, etc.
ISSUE: Window vibration – poor installation.
DO THIS: Refer to installation instructions – check with installer.

Water dripping inside when air conditioner is cooling.
ISSUE: Improper installation.
DO THIS: Tilt air conditioner slightly to the outside to allow water drainage. Refer to installation instructions – check with installer.
Water dripping outside when air conditioner is cooling.
ISSUE: Unit removing large quantity of moisture from humid room.
DO THIS: This is normal during excessively humid days.
